On August 3, 2007 I, Emily Van Asch, was born in beautiful Belgian Limburg, where I was allowed to grow up to become the curious and inquisitive person I am today.

Ever since I was little, I have loved being involved with music. Therefore, I started at the Academy of Haspengouw with solfège and guitar studies. After this I followed a year of composition. With this I wanted to challenge myself and deepen and develop my musical skills. My hunger for music was great, so I also schooled myself during a year of music culture and Applab, but composing continued to fill my heart.

My first experience singing in a choir was at Music Camp. My love for choir was born here. The coming together of the different voices and how it forms a harmonious whole touched my musical heart time and time again. At that moment, a musical seed was planted and I began to write my own choral works. I wrote my first arrangement. Proud but with a small heart I shared this piece with my family. Through this way I managed to tell my story and share my emotions, but I was still too uncertain to officially publish it.

Since 2022 I have been studying at the KSO Lemmens Institute in Leuven where I have been taking "composition" since 2023. There I shared my choral works with my teachers. They encouraged me to publish my works. It is with excitement, but much enthusiasm that I would like to share my work. I am ready to take this beautiful step forward and I look forward to what the future has to offer.

Op 3 augustus 2007 werd ik, Emily Van Asch, geboren in het mooie Belgische Limburg, waar ik mocht opgroeien tot de nieuwsgierige en leergierige persoon die ik vandaag ben.

Al van kleins af aan hou ik ervan om bezig te zijn met muziek. Daarom startte ik in de Academie van Haspengouw met notenleer en gitaarstudies. Hierna volgde ik een jaar ‘compositie’. Hiermee wilde ik mezelf uitdagen en mijn muzikale vaardigheden verdiepen en ontwikkelen. Mijn honger naar muziek was groot, daarom schoolde ik me ook bij tijdens een jaar muziekcultuur en Applab, maar componeren bleef mijn hart vervullen.

Mijn eerste ervaring met zingen in een koor was op Muzikamp. Mijn liefde voor koor is hier ontstaan. Het samenkomen van de verschillende stemmen en hoe dit een harmonisch geheel vormt raakt mijn muzikale hart keer op keer. Op dat moment werd er een muzikaal zaadje gepland en begon ik eigen koorwerken te schrijven. Ik schreef een eerste arrangement. Trots maar met een klein hartje deelde ik dit stuk met mijn familie. Via deze weg lukte het me om mijn verhaal te vertellen en mijn emoties te delen, maar ik was nog te onzeker om het officieel te publiceren.

Sinds 2022 studeer ik aan het KSO Lemmensinstituut in Leuven waar ik sinds 2023 ‘compositie’ volg. Daar deelde ik mijn koorwerken met mijn leerkrachten. Zij moedigden mij aan om mijn werk te publiceren. Met spanning, maar veel enthousiasme wil ik graag mijn werk delen. Ik ben klaar om deze mooie stap vooruit te zetten en ik kijk uit naar wat de toekomst nog te bieden heeft.
