Lucas Caluwaerts (°Kortrijk 1992), violinist since he was four, was raised in the academy of Waregem, where he learned the tricks of the trade from Paul de Meyer and Frank Debruyne.

He set sail for the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, studying classical violin with Guido de Neve and Jazz with Ben Sluijs. He got his Masters degrees in both Jazz and classical violin.

His interest for composing has grown from his background as an improvisor. “Composition is modelled improvisation”

His oeuvre consists of compositions for piano, violin and piano, string quartet, flute and piano, violin solo…

Lucas’ house style can be summarized as followed: accessible, contemporary classical music, often with rhythmical en harmonic influence from Jazz.

Lucas Caluwaerts (°Kortrijk 1992), violist sinds zijn vierde, is grootgebracht in de academie van Waregem, waar hij de knepen van het vak leerde bij Paul de Meyer en Frank Debruyne.

Hij trok vervolgens naar het Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen waar hij klassiek viool volgde bij Guido de Neve en jazz bij Ben Sluijs. Hij ronde zijn studies af en behaalde masterdiploma’s in zowel Jazz als klassiek.

De interesse voor compositie is bij Lucas gegroeid vanuit zijn achtergrond als improvisator. “Compositie is vormgegeven improvisatie.”

Zijn oeuvre bestaat uit composities voor piano, viool en piano, strijkkwartet, fluit en piano, viool solo…

Zijn huisstijl kan je samenvatten als toegankelijk, eigentijdse klassieke muziek met ritmische en harmonische invloed uit jazz en lichte muziek.
