Pianist
He practised this profession mainly at the Municipal Conservatory of Bruges, where he also used the harpsichord and organ as accompaniment instruments, retiring in 2016 after a full career.
Activities as a pianist did not stop here. Jan Huylebroeck is currently a much sought-after pianist with various choirs and soloists, both as a rehearser and for concert performances.

Timpanist and other instruments
From 1975, the career as a percussionist went immediately towards orchestral timpani playing, to move into historical performance practice of it after ten years. Several "historical performance practice" orchestras have engaged Jan Huylebroeck as a freelance percussionist since 1985: in the past, La Petite Bande and Il Fondamento, among others, and today Anima Eterna Brugge, B'Rock Gent and Il Gardellino and others, resulting in concerts all over the world.
As a side-step in his music career, Jan Huylebroeck also plays the special historical instruments:
Serpent and Ophicleid.
Composer
As a composer, Jan Huylebroeck has written numerous chamber music works for a wide variety of ensembles, mostly commissioned, as well as works for HaFaBra, solo instruments, works for music education, orchestrations in symphonic settings, as well as for electronic instruments, sometimes mixed with acoustic instruments.
Several works can be heard on YouTube. Feel free to click on 'Media' on his website.
