Thom Zigterman (1972) was born in the Groningen town of Delfzijl. At the age of ten he moved to Heeg (Friesland). There Thom enjoyed his first music lessons and played the bugle in the local brass band Crescendo. It soon became clear that Thom had talent and ambition, so he chose to continue in music.
After switching from bugle to trumpet, he joined the Frysk Fanfare Orchestra in 1990. A year later he went to study School Music and HaFaBra Conducting at the Conservatory in Groningen. Nowadays he plays E-flat bass with the Gelders Fanfare Orchestra and brass quintet DREFT.

During and after his training, Thom conducted various brass bands and fanfare orchestras, including "Oranje" Grootegast and "Excelsior" Ouwsterhaule. Since 1997 he has conducted CMV Excelsior Schraard (1st division), from 2011 Thom has been standing for Fanfare CWO Groningen (also 1st division) and since 2018 for fanfare orchestra CMV Oranje Spannum (4th division). Thom is also active in all kinds of musical fields. He has his own publishing house with compositions and arrangements, works as a guest conductor and is a well-known jury member at festivals, solo competitions and try outs. He also works as a freelance engraver and music editor for a number of well-known publishers including Amstel Music, Lake Music and Ferskaat MP.

Thom Zigterman werd op 9 april 1972 geboren in het Groningse plaatsje Delfzijl. Op tienjarige leeftijd verhuisde hij naar Heeg (Friesland). Daar genoot Thom zijn eerste muzieklessen en bespeelde de bugel in de plaatselijke fanfare Crescendo. Dat Thom talent en ambitie had werd al snel duidelijk, daarom koos hij ervoor om verder te gaan in de muziek.
Nadat hij de overstap had gemaakt van bugel naar trompet kwam hij in 1990 bij het Frysk Fanfare Orkest. Een jaar later ging hij Schoolmuziek en HaFaBra directie studeren aan het Conservatorium te Groningen. Tegenwoordig speelt hij Es bas bij het Gelders Fanfare Orkest en koperkwintet DREFT.

Tijdens en na zijn opleiding heeft Thom verschillende brassbands en fanfareorkesten gedirigeerd, waaronder ‘Oranje’ Grootegast en ‘Excelsior’ Ouwsterhaule. Sinds 1997 dirigeert hij CMV Excelsior Schraard (1e divisie), vanaf 2011 staat Thom voor Fanfare CWO Groningen (ook 1e divisie) en sinds 2018 voor fanfareorkest CMV Oranje Spannum (4e divisie). Thom is daarnaast op allerlei mogelijke muzikale terreinen actief. Zo heeft hij zijn eigen uitgeverij met composities en arrangementen, verzorgt gastdirecties en is veelgevraagd jurylid bij festivals, solistenconcoursen en try outs. Daarnaast werkt hij als freelance engraver en muziekredacteur voor enkele bekende uitgeverijen waaronder Amstel Music, Lake Music en Ferskaat MP.
