Program Notes
for small symphony orchestra
Approaching Harmony was written for the Prinsjesdagconcert for the Residentie Orkest. The piece was composed for the One Minute Symphony project in collaboration with The Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
It was premièred on the 15th of September 2020.
The theme of the concert was liberty, which was worked into the composition.
The opening chord consists of subharmonics, resolving into harmonics by the end.
This symbolises the road from restriction to liberation.
