Program Notes
For Cello and Piano
Agoshian composed this work for double bass and piano in 2003 and dedicated it to his piano professor Selçuk Uraz. He recorded it with Steinway artist Sahan Ardzruni in 2008. It transcribed for Violoncello and Piano and performed by Rahşan Apay in Yerevan/Armenia in 2009.
In the A section, piano imitates church bells and the double bass plays the prayer theme with an expressive style. B theme describes an internal conflict, it has a mixed style(orient-occident). At the end the A section heards one more time with ornamentations from B theme. The coda comes gratefully with the church bell sound.
