officieel lied voor de Choir Games Vlaanderen 2021 - versie voor TBB
“Listen” wants – renew – to sing about the beauty of nature and stimulate our involvement to become part of a grand all-in compassing whole. The text is an ode to love that finds its origin, being and consequence in the natural forms and elements. Love that we don't just sing with our voice, but which we prepare for and activate our whole body.
Text
The poem Love's Philosophy by the English Romantic poet Percy B. Shelley is the basic text for the song; it includes the two verses. Shelley was an outspoken environmentalist for his time and understood that people and nature are connected. The lyrics of the chorus are my own invention and are composed of proverbs and truths of the Native American Indians. Woniya waka (note the pronunciation: "Won-nee-yah wah-kahn" – translation: the Holy Spirit, but then spirit in function of the all-encompassing air, wind, primal force or deity in nature) is a statement of the Dakota.
