JARIPEO SON MIXE Clarinet Quartet - Arrangement by Everardo García

The musical piece "Jaripeo Son Mixe" evokes nostalgic memories of the 1980s in the community of Tlahuitoltepec Mixe, Oaxaca, Mexico. In the framework of the patron saint celebrations, the municipal philharmonic band offered a masterful participation, in which my father was an active member. One of the most outstanding events was the traditional jaripeo in December, where the band performed this piece to enrich the show of the regional horsemen. Despite being a favorite piece of both the public and the horsemen, the title and the composer of the work remained anonymous. In this arrangement, it was given the name "Jaripeo Son Mixe", since "son" is a musical genre for dancing, "mixe" refers to the various communities in the region that speak the Mixe language and "jaripeo" to the reminiscences associated with that time. However, it is important to mention that this "son" is a piece of music for dancing and is not necessarily used in the context of rodeo.
