In Paradisum

“La Commedia” ( nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita) is een werk dat ik voor mijn compositie-examen heb geschreven voor het orkest van de koninklijke luchtmacht. Het stuk is in grote lijnen gebaseerd op de Divina Commedia van Dante. Hij vertelt in zijn boek hoe hij, nadat hij in een duister woud is beland, door een gids, Vergilius, wordt meegenomen, om een reis te maken door de hel, de louteringsberg en de hemel. In de hemel neemt Beatrice, Dante's geliefde, de functie als gids over. Deze laatste passage is een op zichzelf staand werk “In Paradisum”.

"La Commedia" ( nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita) is a work that I wrote for my composition exam for the Orchestra of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The piece is largely based on the Divina Commedia by Dante. He tells in his book how, after he landed in a dark forest, he is taken by a guide, Vergilius, to make a journey through Hell, the Purification Mountain and Heaven. In heaven, Beatrice, Dante's lover, takes over the function as a guide. This last passage is a self-contained piece named “In Paradisum”
