Ballad en latin version of the Chinese "Jasmine"
In 2006 kreeg ik de kans om als dirigent met de "Lighttown Bigband" uit Eindhoven op een korte tournee naar China te gaan. Om het Chinese publiek, dat weinig bekend is met bigband-muziek, te enthousiasmeren werd ons aangeraden ook een aantal chinese liedjes te spelen. Het leek me leuk om "Jasmine", een chinees kinderliedje, na een pentatonische introductie ( pentatoniek klinkt al gauw Chinees) rustig op te zetten als een jazz-ballad, om er vervolgens wat verrassend mee te doen. Salsa!
In 2006 I had the opportunity to visit China as conductor of the "Lighttown Bigband" from Eindhoven. To enthuse the Chinese audience, not so familiar with bigband music, we were advised to also play some Chinese songs. I had the idea to use "Jasmine", a Chinese lullaby. After a pentatonic introduction the theme begins as a ballad, after which something suprising happens. Salsa!
