Variations on Pique Dame

These two pieces are quite different in style.

Dame Blanche starts with a theme that Steve Gadd often uses when he starts a drum solo. Then the snare drum themes from Pique Dame come in, after which the piece ends with the same theme as it started with. The trick here is to play softly at the beginning and at the end, despite the fact that there are many intricacies.

In Pico Bello, just about the entire snare drum part of Pique Dame has been transcribed. With 32 additional crazy measures in the middle that could put you to the test...  The trick here is to keep the pace. Studying with a metronome can therefore be helpful. 

Deze twee stukken verschillen nogal van elkaar qua stijl.

Dame Blanche begint met een thema dat Steve Gadd nogal eens gebruikt wanneer hij een drumsolo begint. Daarna komen de kleine trom thema's uit Pique Dame aan bod, waarna het stuk eindigt met hetzelfde thema als waar het mee begon. De kunst daarbij is om bij het begin en aan het eind zacht te spelen ondanks dat daar veel snelle nootjes en voorslagen staan.

In Pico Bello is zo ongeveer de hele kleine trom partij van Pique Dame overgeschreven. Met in het midden 32 bijverzonnen krankzinnige maten die je even op de proef zouden kunnen stellen...  De kunst hier is om het tempo vast te houden. Studeren met een metronoom kan daarbij behulpzaam zijn.
