Symphonic dances, waltzes and polkas.

The snare drum part from Sergei Rachmaninoff's  'Symphonic Dances'  was one of the first pieces on snare drum that I got to play in my professional career as an orchestral percussionist. That part has stayed with me ever since because, to be honest, it took me a while before I could feel how the rhythm fitted into the composition… So it's logical for me that I also devote a study to this piece, which threatens to get completely out of hand at the end, but luckily that is also going to be all right.

Waltzes and polkas have always been great to listen to and play for me. Especially in polkas you can enjoy yourself as a snare drum player. I have taken a number of pieces in this genre as a starting point for this study. See if you can find out what those are.

Het trommel gedeelte uit Sergei Rachmaninoffs  'Symfonische Dansen'  was één van de eerste stukken die ik in mijn proffesionele loopbaan als slagwerker voor dat instrument te spelen kreeg. Dat gedeelte is me daarna altijd bij gebleven. Want het duurde eerlijk gezegd even voordat ik kon voelen hoe het ritme in het geheel van de compositie paste... Logisch voor mij dus dat ik ook aan dit stuk een studie wijd, die aan het einde trouwens geheel uit de hand dreigt te lopen, maar gelukkig komt het net op tijd weer helemaal goed.

Walsen en polka's heb ik altijd geweldig gevonden om naar te luisteren en te spelen. Zeker in polka's kun je je als trommelaar nl. soms heerlijk uitleven. Ik heb een aantal stukken in dit genre als uitgangspunt genomen voor deze studie. Kijk of je kunt ontdekken welke dat zijn.
