Biography
Welcome to my profile on Sonolize. I´m a self taught composer from Germany. My musical journey started at the age of 10 (playing the guitar) and later on turned into a bigger interest for composition. For some years I was making almost exclusively electronic music and just a few instrumental pieces. At the same time I´ve developed a passion for cinema and the art and craft of video editing and started to work with different sound artists and composers from very different musical backgrounds, producing music videos. In 2017 I had the pleasure to compose electronic music for a butoh dance performance at an annual festival in Paris (you can watch the video of the performance on my YT-channel).
Later I´ve started to compose more instrumental and vocal music, with a special focus on writing for solo voices and choir, mostly unaccompanied (with and without text), and recently also for larger formations like string orchestra. If a vocal piece has a text – it is always poetry (with the exception of one piece, where the text is not a poem, but an excerpt from Leonardo da Vincis philosophical diaries: «Guarda il lume»). A poem setting can be a simple solo voice melody or can be set for 2-4 voices. For some pieces there is a free choice to sing them by solo singers or choir.
My vocal pieces without text (Chants) are more experimental in terms of harmonic and rhythmic complexity, but partialy they are textless versions of some poetry settings. It is especially in the textless vocal pieces, where I love to explore new possibilities of contrapuntal, harmonic, and rhythmic structures, without loosing the connection to already existing music.
For the guitar I´ve composed a series of "Arpsolos", which are etude-like pieces based on arpeggiated melodies. They can be played on a classical guitar, as well as an a steel strings or even electric guitar. Some of this pieces also work as arrangements for solo harp, which I will work on in near future.
In some pieces there is an intersection between instrumental and vocal music: f.e. when I write a textless vocal piece with instrumental accompaniment (like f.e. guitar or viola).
Whenever I want to experiment with pure sound and noise – I do it with electronics, where I can abandon such parameters as melody and harmony.
I also love to make arrangements of older music, especially from the pre-classical era (f.e. pieces by Machaut, Josquin, de Vitry, Dufay, de Macque, Bach, and others).
Beside my work as a composer I´m working on videos and photography/digital collages, which you can explore in more detail on my personal website.
I´m very interested in exploring new locations for music performances/concerts, such as ancient architecture, which can also become an inspiring interdisciplinary video project, incorporating music live performance, video, and dance. Actually some of my video works have been screened during live concerts and I´m looking forward to make new experiences in that field.
So if you are a musician and would like to perform one of my pieces or to start a project (f.e. as a dancer or filmmaker/video artist), please contact me on my personal website:
