Hans van der Heide (1958) started studying trumpet after high school at the “Sweelinck Conservatorium” in Amsterdam. During this study he was appointed as solo trumpet player at the “Koninklijke Militaire Kapel” in The Hague. After obtaining his diploma in Amsterdam, van der Heide continued his studies for his windmusic diploma conducting at the “Royal Conservatory” in The Hague. After completing this, he started studying arranging / composing with Marcel Peeters in Belgium. From 2005 to 2007 he studied composition at the Rotterdam Conservatory (Cod-arts) with Klaas de Vries.

An important time in a musical sense was the collaboration with music publisher "Molenaar Edition B.V." where many packages have appeared that have been sold worldwide such as the “Indiana Jones Selection”, “Highlights from Hook”, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “The Lion King”.

Since November 1996 he has been the owner of “Van der Heide Music Edition”, where new arrangements / compositions of his hand are published. In 2006 the 10th anniversary was celebrated with the CD: ”A Dutch Souvenir”, on which various pieces by Hans were released such as: 'A Dutch Souvenir', 'Entry of the Boyars',' 3 Hymnes', 'Spanish Festival ',' Viva Italia! '.

In addition to composing / arranging full time, he works as an arranger for almost all Dutch symphony orchestras and various ensembles and is the permanent arranger of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble. For the latter ensemble he arranged "Le Nozze di Figaro", "die Zauberflöte" and "Cosi fan Tutte" by Mozart with great success into a chamber opera. 
After this he made the adaptations of “Il Barbieri di Siviglia” and “Il Turco in Italia” by Rossini, before returning to Mozart's “Requiem”. Since 1995, Van der Heide has also made a permanent contribution to the successful New Year's concerts of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble.

Over the years, Hans van der Heide has won several prizes in composition competitions around the world, including in:

2009 - 3rd Prize at the Pyro-Musikale in Berlin, Germany.
2010 - 1st prize with “Spirith of Youth” at the BDB Kompositionswettbewerb in Wehr, Germany.
2011 - 1st prize with ”The Fool’s Journey, part 1 ″ at the Composition Competition for the 20th Annual Chiayi City International Band Festival in Taiwan.
2014 - shared 2nd prize (there was no 1st) with “Recuerdos de Buenos Aires” at the VSM (Der Verband Südtiroler Musikkapellen) Kompositionswettbewerbe in Bolzano, Italy.
2017 - 1st prize with “Chasing Rabbits” at Concours de Composition 2017 for Brass Band, issued on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of “L’Ensemble de Cuivres Valaisan” in Martigny, Switzerland.

Hans van der Heide (1958) begon na de middelbare school aan een trompetstudie aan het “Sweelinck Conservatorium” in Amsterdam. Tijdens deze studie werd hij aangesteld als solotrompettist bij de “Koninklijke Militaire Kapel” te Den Haag. Na het behalen van zijn diploma in Amsterdam studeerde van der Heide verder voor zijn HA/FA diploma directie aan het “Koninklijk Conservatorium” te Den Haag. Van 2005 t/m 2007 studeerde hij compositie aan het Rotterdams Conservatorium (Codarts) bij Klaas de Vries.

Een belangrijke tijd in muzikaal opzicht was de samenwerking van Hans met muziekuitgeverij “Molenaar Edition B.V.” waar veel arrangementen zijn verschenen die wereldwijd zijn verkocht zoals de “Indiana Jones Selection”, “Highlights from Hook”, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” en ‘The Lion King”.

Sinds november 1996 is hij eigenaar van “Van der Heide Music Edition”, waar nieuwe arrangementen/composities van zijn hand worden uitgegeven. Naast het full time componeren/arrangeren werkt hij als arrangeur voor bijna alle Nederlandse symfonieorkesten en diverse ensembles en is hij vaste arrangeur van het Nederlands Blazers Ensemble. Voor dit laatste ensemble bewerkte hij "Le Nozze di Figaro”, “die Zauberflöte” en “Cosi fan Tutte” van Mozart met veel succes tot kameropera. Hierna heeft hij van “Il Barbieri di Siviglia” en “Il Turco in Italia” van Rossini de bewerkingen gemaakt, om daarna weer terug te keren naar Mozarts “Requiem”. Tevens levert van der Heide sinds 1995 ieder jaar een vaste bijdrage aan de succesvolle Nieuwjaarsconcerten van het Nederlands Blazersensemble.

Hans van der Heide heeft in de loop van de jaren diverse prijzen gewonnen in compositiewedstrijden over de hele wereld, waaronder in:
