Biography
Jerzy Marek Mackiewicz graduated with honours from the Academy of Music I. J. Paderewski in Poznań, in the percussion class of Professor Jerzy Skrzypczak (1997) and finished post-graduate studies in composition at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in the field of composition and instrumentation in Dr.hab. Dariusz Przybylski's class, as well as film music class run by Dr. Tomasz Opałka (2017). Since 1997, he has been permanently associated with the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestrawhere, where he currently performs as a soloist drummer.
As a composer Jerzy Marek Mackiewicz is an author of symphonic, vocal - instrumental and cameral pieces (including a cappella choral music).
His compositions were performed by famous Polish orchestras, such as Płock Symphony Orchestra and the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra. His choral pieces were performed by well known Polish choirs as the Academic Choir of Warsaw University of Technology or University of Warsaw Choir as well as The Chamber Choir of the Musikhochschule Mennheim.
The use of a variety of percussion sounds and combining it with other instruments and voice is the vital part of Jerzy Marek Mackiewicz works. His compositions contain unusual combination of sounds, surprising use of harmonic structures, as well as asymmetric rhythm and strong emotional feelings.
