for High Voice Solo, SATB Choir, and Organ
This arrangement of the Sanctus from Charles Gounod’s La Messe solennelle en l’honneur de Sainte Cécile was created for the St. Agnes Catholic Church Traditional Choir of Louisville, Kentucky. Originally for Tenor solo and SATB Chorus, it may be also performed by Soprano. An alternate choral score with Piano accompaniment is available, as is one in full score for Trumpets, String Quartet, and Organ.
The choral parts have been re-voiced to eliminate divisi passages, reducing the number of singers needed, although the more, the better! The solo part has been expanded, joining on the melody for the final “Sanctus” and adding a brief cadenza-like final phrase to the chorus’ final “Hosanna in excelsis.”
This arrangement is quite approachable by a church or community choir. The vocal ranges are comfortable and enjoyably singable.
