Requiem for the Trees opus 174 (2018) voor 2 violen en piano
Gecomponeerd naar aanleiding van de vernietiging de oerwouden en de bomen en de bossen in de wereld, en ook de vernietiging van de vele mooie oude bomen op de Scheveningse weg in het kader van de 'vooruitgang'. De ontluistering en vernietiging van de prachtige groene en boomrijke Scheveningse weg zoals hij was zal zo allengs zijn allure verliezen.
This work is composed in a kind of Arvo Pärt-like style, in G minor, an alternation of only 2 chords: I and VI6 in G minor, so a kind of minimal music or 'the new simplicity'.
Composed in response to the destruction of the jungles and trees and forests in the world, and also the destruction of the many beautiful old trees on the Scheveningen road in The Hague-Holland. All over the world, old forests and jungles are being destroyed, including for palm nut plantations, and recently also for biomass energy in the context of so-called 'sustainable' energy. This piece is an indictment to this practises.
