CREOLE DANCE Clarinet Quartet - Arrangement by Everardo García
Criolle Dance, Opus 94, was originally written for piano by the French composer and pianist Cécile Louise Stéphanie Chaminade. She was born in Paris on August 8, 1857, and died in Monte Carlo on April 13, 1944. She began studying music with her mother, continuing with Félix Le Couppey, Savart, Martin Pierre Joseph Marsick, and Benjamin Godard.
A precocious composer, she performed some of her pieces for Georges Bizet, the composer of Carmen, at just 8 years old. Her popularity grew throughout her life, starting with her first concert at the age of 18. She primarily wrote piano pieces and salon songs. His work was considerable, and includes a dramatic symphony, The Amazons, opus 26, an orchestral suite, a comic opera, La Sevillana, opus 10, a Trio No. 2 for violin, cello, and piano, opus 34, and a Concertino for flute and orchestra, opus 107. Among his 200 pieces for piano, in the Romantic style, the following stand out: Symphonic Study, opus 28; Six Concert Studies, opus 35; Arabesque, opus 61; and Six Romances without Words, opus 76.
