Symphonic Wind Ensemble or Wind Orchestra
After writing several arrangements, Opus 1 is the first complete composition written by Tjeerd Barkmeijer. Hence ofcourse the title. Opus 1 is an original opening piece, based on the tune of a railroad company which appears in various characters. In the beginning mysteriously building up, than used in a funky fugue, after which the motif appears in different light in a ballad section. After an emotional climax we are suddenly back where we started, only this time the funky fugue seems to get stuck. After all the fugue theme sounds in the lower end of the orchestra, leading to a spectacular close.
