Arrangement for Fanfare Orchestra
The dramatic story of Pelléas et Mélisande inspired various writers and composers. Fauré based his suite ‘Pelléas et Mélisande’ on the music he wrote for the play of the same name. ‘La Mort de Mélisande’ is the last of four movements and from the start it is unmistakably clear that Mélisandes end is tragic. It is an orchestral lament, with echoes of Mélisandes song and throughout a punctuated rhythm that reminds of a funeral march. A dramatic and sombre piece of music with beautiful introvert moments, long lines and emotional climaxes.
