Flexible ensemble (8-part wind & brass, 3-part percussion)
A short composition, based on the medieval Galician folksong Pase el agoa. The lyrics of this song roughly translate as: "Come to me across the water, my lady Julietta. I will go into a garden, there to pluck thee three roses." The melody as well as several aspects of the lyrics are heard back in the music. Not just quite literal, like the babbling of water and a (rather dark) garden with beautiful roses, but more in the underlying emotions like longing and frustration. A short but surprisingly varied piece, with both medieval and modern elements and a festive and triumphant ending.
