Symphonic Poem from A. Dvorak, arranged for symfonic wind orchestra
When Dvorak in 1895 returns from the United States, he starts with composing a new genre: a symphonic poem. This composition is his first in this genre and he writes it in 1896. Other wellknown symphonic poems from this composer are The Noon Witch and The Golden Spinning Wheel.
The story is about a peasant girl that in falls in the water in a little lake, in spite of her mothers warnings. The watergoblin from this lake, takes the girl into the deep, merries her an they're having a child. Because of the continuing complaining of the girl, the watergoblin allows her to return to her mother to see her one more last time. The girl has to return on the same day. When the girls arrives at her mother's place, the mother won't let her go back to the lake. Out of revenge, the watergoblin kills the child, and during a raging storm, he leaves the body at the doorstep of the mother and daughters house.
