Fons van Gorp (b.1952) studied classical piano at the Brabant Conservatoire. After this study he went on to concentrate on jazz music. From 1979 till 1986 he was the pianist for the Tilburg Big Band. He also played with several combos and performed with them both in the Netherlands and further afield, including the North Sea Jazz Festival and live performances for the radio. 
From 1976 till 2013 Fons worked as a pianoteacher for the centres of music education in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Veghel and Rosmalen. Beside he conducted amateur big bands and jazz-/popworkshops. 
Fons has always been active as a composer. In 1996 he was awarded first prize in the composition competition within the framework of “Brabant 200” for his big band piece Suite Mundial. De Haske/Hal Leonard Publications has published much of his educational music including the books in the succesful SWOP series, which are known throughout Europe. Also he wrote a musical and was engaged in songwriting, in close collaboration with lyricists. 
As a conductor/coach Fons led a variety of pop choirs and a vocal group.  
He currently has a piano practice at home in Nuland (NL) and regularly he writes new compositions. He writes arrangements on request.

Van 1976 tot maart 2013 was Fons verbonden aan de muziekscholen van Den Bosch, Veghel en Rosmalen als pianodocent. Tevens leidde hij er een big band en jazz- en popworkshops.
Ook als componist is hij altijd actief geweest. In 1996 ontving hij de eerste prijs bij de compostitiewedstrijd in het kader van Brabant 200 voor zijn big bandwerk "Suite Mundial". Bij muziekuitgeverij De Haske/Hal Leonard zijn zo'n 30 educatieve muziekboeken van zijn hand uitgegeven. Over de hele wereld werden ruim 300.000 exemplaren verkocht. Ook schreef Fons een paar musicals en diverse songs samen met tekstschrijvers. 
Daarnaast was hij dirigent/coach van diverse popkoren en een vocal group.  
Op dit moment heeft hij een pianolespraktijk aan huis in Nuland en schrijft hij regelmatig nieuwe composities. Arrangementen schrijft hij ook op verzoek.
