This composition for bass trombone accompanied by concert band, fanfare or brass band was created through the collaboration of internationally renowned bass trombone virtuoso Jos Jansen with the famous Flemish singer Micheline Van Hautem, who specializes in songs by Jacques Brel and Ramses Shaffy.
In order to enrich their new program 'Shaffy and Brass' with a solo work for bass trombone with orchestral accompaniment, composer Peter Habraken was asked to write a lyrical solo work. The composition opens with a theme that vaguely recalls one of the great successes of Shaffy, to whom the work is dedicated. A temperamental tango follows. Then turbulent scherzo passages are alternated with more subdued, reflective moments. A versatile musical challenge for both orchestra and soloist.
