The Saba Adventure (Revised Version)

On July 17, 1993, the official world premiere of my first major composition for fanfare orchestra took place during the World Music Competition in Kerkrade. 'The Saba Adventure' was performed on that day in the Rodahal by Fanfare Orchestra Psalm 150 from Dinxperlo conducted by Bart van den Brink in the Concert Department. Psalm 150 had also commissioned the composition.
It is already 30 years ago that 'The Saba Adventure' received such a wonderful world premiere. After the world premiere, the work has been performed many times and appeared on various CDs. In all those 30 years I have left the work untouched, but over time the desire arose to change a number of things in the instrumentation, articulation, dynamics and harmony. In the end, a revised version of 'The Saba Adventure' was created that, despite all the changes, hardly differs audibly from the very first version.
Just like with the sequel to 'The Saba Adventure' in 2014 (The Saba Encounters), I have now provided the separate parts with titles, so that it is clearer what the music describes. The tempo indications have also been provided with more exact meters, although these are clearly still indications that can be interpreted freely.
