Brass Quintet
Joop van Dijk - Ten Black Shoes
Ten Black Shoes was composed on behalf of the Marine Band of the Royal Navy
on the occasion of the annual Corps Concerts in November 1989, during which the world famous
hornist Hermann Baumann performed as soloist. The original version was composed for
horn quintet, with Hermann Baumann together with the horn quartet of the Marine Band
would occur. After the Corps Concerts, the work remained on the program of the Marine Band for
a long time.
In 1990 the work was arranged by the composer for brass quintet. The Osiris Brass Quintet
premiered the work in 1991.
